If you or someone in your family is feeling unwell and you’re not sure what to do or if you need to see a doctor, you can call Healthline. It’s a free phone service that you can call anytime of the day or night.
When you call, you’ll speak to a team of healthcare professionals like nurses, paramedics, advisors, and doctors who can help you figure out what to do. They can also provide information and advice on prescription medicines or set you up with a virtual appointment with a doctor.
The service is available to everyone, including:
- people who don’t speak English as their first language
- deaf or hearing-impaired individuals
- people who need help due to disability.
If you need a translator or an interpreter, they’ll arrange for one to assist you.
They also have a team of Māori clinicians available during certain hours of the day who are experienced in providing culturally safe health advice.

The COVID-19 Disability Helpline is available 24/7 and can assist members of the disability community with all their COVID-19 related concerns. If you need help with COVID-19 related information, such as vaccine information, testing, or how to manage COVID-19 at home, call free on 0800 11 12 13 or text 8988.
Plunketline
For children/tamariki under five, call Plunketline on 0800 933 922 for free health advice 24/7, 365 days a year.
New Rural Health After-hours Telehealth Service
A new rural health after-hours telehealth service is now available. Eligible rural communities can access the service by calling 0800 2KA ORA (0800 252 672).
