Optometry

If you have eye pain, eye injuries, or an issue with your vision, you can visit an optometrist.

Taking care of your vision is essential for your overall health and quality of life. Whether you need a routine eye exam, updated glasses or contact lenses, screening for eye diseases, or specialist care, an optometrist can assist.

What services are available?

Optometrists can assist you with:

  • Comprehensive eye examinations (vision check, refraction, and eye health screening)
  • Glasses (prescription eyewear, frame selection, and fittings)
  • Contact lenses
  • Eye disease screening and management
  • Children’s eye exams and driver’s licence eye testing

Where to go for support

You don’t need a doctor’s referral to see an optometrist. You can find a clinic and book an appointment directly using the Healthpoint directory.

Most optometry clinics are privately operated and set their own prices for the services they provide. You can request a quote when booking. Clinics may also accept private health insurance.

If you are visiting an optometrist as a result of an accident, you may be able to submit an ACC claim to help cover the cost of your treatment.
